leader Mmusi Maimane regarding an announcement claiming that his party

Mashaba: DA results in Joburg making history
The DA mayoral candidate in Johannesburg says he’s amazed at the numbers he sees on the results screen.
RETORIA – The Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Johannesburg mayoral candidate Herman Mashaba says the support the party has generated in the metro this year is historic.
While nearly 80 percent of votes across the country have been counted so far, political parties on the ground are still saying it’s too soon for celebrations to begin.
Mashaba was in high spirits as he took a walk around the centre today.
He says while he knew the party would win the support of voters, he is still amazed at the numbers he sees on the results screen.
"It’s an outcome that I personally believe is historic. The history of South Africa today, is not like it was yesterday and it will never be the same."
The results show that in Johannesburg, the ANC are almost neck-and-neck with the DA.
Mashaba says the party will have truly achieved its goal if it secures more than 51% of the vote in Johannesburg.
